A little something from a few years ago

Several years ago, during the days of ‘lockdowns’ and restrictions, a lot of photographers weren’t allowed to work. Therefore, a lot of people weren’t able to hire a professional to capture their moments, memories and milestones.

During this time, I decided to create a little Facebook Group “Capturing our Moments - with Tess Jasmine Photography”. The concept behind the group was to build connection and guide people to be capturing their ‘lockdown’ days the best they could on their own, with whatever type of camera they had on them be that an iPhone camera, Samsun Camera, iPad camera, point and shoot, DSLR or a mirrorless camera. As the saying goes, ‘The best camera is the one you have on you at the time’.

The group wasn’t about creating a business, or being a professional photographer, it was about building a little community through photography and connecting people. Each fortnight I shared little tips and set a mini project to get people to capture their days and to bring some creativeness into a period of time that was very hard for a lot of people.

It was also during this time, due to of people missing out on having a professional capture their newborn photos, that I create a little ‘How to guide’ to help people capture their own images on their little ones in their homes.

I came across it the other day and thought I would share it here. It’s a simple guide, not a ‘how to use your settings’, or ‘how to start a business’, just some tips on what to think about if you do want to capture your own images. The lighting and angle concepts can be used to capture children at any age around the house.

Hiring a professional is always the best way to go to ensure top quality images. But this is for those who want to capture moments in between those professional shoots with whatever camera they have at the time.

If it ends up sparking a light with in you and you feel photography could be a a journey you’d like to wander down (I know my group did help a few people find their passion), I can point you in the direction of some incredible educators who can help you lay the foundations in photography and business alike (The Simply Art Master Class)
